Frequently asked questions
When is the Vet Month of Movement?
The Vet Month of Movement is a month long challenge taking place from the 1st to 31st of October 2020.
Does it cost anything to take part?
No, there is no cost to taking part!
Who can take part in the Vet Month of Movement?
Anyone with links to the veterinary profession who would like to get involved is welcome to join us in getting active to raise awareness of veterinary mental health and funds for Vetlife.
Who can be on my team?
You can form a team with your colleagues, friends or family. They don't necessarily need to stay locally to you either or enjoy the same activities as you can each work individually towards your team target. The event is a great opportunity to boost team dynamics at work or re-engage with old vet school friends!
Can I take part by myself?
We encourage you to create a team with people you know so that you can support and motivate each other but if you like, you can also take part by yourself and find support within the online community.
Is there a set goal we are working to achieve?
You can create your own goal to suit you and your teammates!
Which activities can we take part in?
You can choose how you would like to get active - walk, run, cycle, ride, swim, yoga, exercise outdoors or at the gym. Try something new or make an activity you already love more of a constant in your weekly routine.
We all have mental health and it needs looked after just like our physical health. The event has been created for everyone from students to seasoned clinicians to help encourage us to take part in regular exercise to support our mental health. However, October was chosen with new grads in mind. The transition from vet school into our first jobs is an exciting but also particularly difficult time in our careers and we felt that an October event would be well placed to allow you to have found your feet in your job and able to start exploring ways to support yourself mentally.
How do we fundraise for Vetlife?
Create your own fundraising page for your team and direct your friends and family to sponsor you directly.
Does my team need to log what we have achieved?
Not officially, but you will need to be in touch with each other to see how you are progressing towards your goal. You can choose to share your daily activity with the veterinary community online using #vetmonthofmovement. We would love to follow your progress!
